He started out his mining career working for BHP at the Robinson Operations in Ely\, Nevada\, however when the opportunity arose to return to his hometown to work at the Greens Creek Mine he jumped at the chance.  \n\n	Mike has worked at Greens Creek since 1999 and has held various roles in underground exploration\, production geology\, resource estimation\, as well as short and long range mine planning.  In 2007 he became the Mine Technical Superintendent at Greens Creek and was responsible for managing Mine Engineering\, Mine Geology and Mine Exploration activities.  \n\n	In 2011\, Mike was seconded by Hecla Greens Creek to the Council of Alaska Producers (CAP) to commence a 2.5 year term as Executive Director.  CAP is a non-profit trade association formed in 1992 and serves as a spokesperson for the producing metal mines and major metal mine development projects in Alaska.  Mike returned to Hecla in May of 2013 as the Manager of Government and Community Relations.\n\n	Outside of his professional roles\, Mike has been very active within the Alaska Miners Association both as a past chairman of the Juneau Branch and as a past statewide Vice President.  Since 2005\, Mike has served on the City and Borough of Juneau Planning Commission which he currently chairs.  Mike is also President of the Juneau Ski Club and\, along with his wife Sarah\, coordinates the Mitey Mite Youth Ski Racing program.
