The Chief will also provide an update about the organizational health of SPD and the critical need for community investment.\n\n \n\n                                                                                                  \n\nBio   \n\n  Jeff Ankerfelt joined the Sitka Police Department as a lieutenant in June of 2014 and assumed the role of Chief on November 1\, 2016.   Prior to moving to Sitka\, Jeff served 23 years as a police officer in Brooklyn Park Minnesota\, a culturally diverse city of 85\,000 people located in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area.  During his time with the Brooklyn Park Police Department\, Jeff developed and implemented several community engagement and problem oriented policing programs that built positive relationships between police and minority communities\, improved the livability of neighborhoods\, and reduced juvenile crime and victimization.   Several of Jeff's programs received national and international recognition as best practices.    Jeff's final assignment was serving as Deputy Chief of Police.   Jeff has a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.  Jeff and his wife Tracy have two children ages 15 and 28 and a dog named Lucky.
