She is the owner of Shelter Cove Publishing\, a web and graphic design business operating since 1998\, and Sitka Through Four Seasons\, a visitors guide. She has been involved in her communities in many capacities such as local government\, school board\, workshop presenter\, commercial fisheries\, subsistence council\, socio-economic issues\, and business and community planning. She is currently Mayor of the City and Borough of Sitka\; co-founder and president of the non-profit Easter Group\, working on homelessness and hunger issues\; and is executive director of Sitka Community Development Corporation\, a non-profit starting a Community Land Trust in Sitka that will address affordable housing issues.
