6th Annual Choose Respect March
The Sitka Youth Leadership Committee and Sitkans Against Family Violence invite you to walk in the 2015 Choose Respect March on March 15. We will start at noon on Thursday, March 26th at Totem Square, head down Lincoln Street and gather at the Crescent Harbor Shelter for celebration, art projects, and brief speeches from students across Sitka.
Let everyone know that you support the movement to stop the epidemic of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child sexual abuse in Alaska. Join Alaskans in 170 communities, find the courage to speak, act, and work towards healing the damage done by these crimes against humanity.
We know that not only females are the victims. That’s why we particularly encourage boys and men to participate in the march to show solidarity and understanding. If you are an employer, please allow your staff members to participate in this community event. Our goal is to be seen, state wide, as a community that cares.
Almost every other woman in Sitka (47%) has experienced domestic violence, sexual violence, or both in her lifetime, according to a 2012 survey by the UAA Justice Center.
