Mining and Sustainable Communities
SEDA is hosting an informational presentation on modern mining in Alaska. This is a free public presentation for anyone interested in learning about the pros and cons of modern mining of the type that may or may not be a possibility for Sitka.
Bob Loeffler, Visiting Professor of Public Policy at the UAA Institute of Social and Economic Research and former Director of the Alaska Division of Mining, Land and Water, is coming to Sitka to provide presentations on three specific mining related topics:
Elements of a Modern Mine – Provides an understanding of what a mine actually does.
Permitting Process – Overview of mine permitting with an emphasis on water quality.
Mining and Sustainable Communities – Discussion of pros and cons of mining and how to best capture the benefits and avoid potential hazards.
