Barbara Miranda - 2020 United States Census Bureau
Barb Miranda lives, plays, and serves on the threshold of some of the wildest places in Southeast Alaska. An Air Force brat whose nomadic childhood had her living in far-flung places such as Guam, Holland, Rhode Island and Nebraska, she’s called Alaska home since 2006. Prior to that she lived in Yosemite Valley where she directed outreach programs for Sierra Nevada National Parks and Forests. She moved to Gustavus, Alaska to escape the California crowds and raise her children in one of the few places left where intact ecosystems and ancestral homelands sustain bootstrap communities, native villages and vibrant cities on the Alaskan Pacific Rim. While in Gustavus, she worked as a planner for Glacier Bay National Park, established a health food store and deli in the heart of the town and was elected Mayor in 2017. She recently moved to Juneau (the only state Capitol which can boast multiple glaciers within city limits) to start her new position as a Partnership Specialist for the Census Bureau. She is committed to ensuring each Alaskan is counted once, only once and in the right place and that the many benefits derived from an accurate 2020 Census flow to Alaskan citizens. Barb holds a Bachelor of Science in forest management from Colorado State University and a master’s degree in public administration from University of Alaska Southeast.
