Bio
Michael Dunham has been a broadcaster and reporter in Alaska for the past 50 years, winning numerous awards including the Alaska Press Club's Howard Rock/Tom Snapp First Amendment prize in 2017. Now retired, his beat at the Anchorage Daily News/Alaska Dispatch News often included historical articles, the genesis of two new books on the acquisition of Russian America by the United States in 1867. He has previously contributed to Reason and Orion magazines and is the editor of "A Grammar of Central Alaskan Yupik."
Description of Presentation:
A slide-talk about the connection between William Seward and Tsar Alexander II of Russia with regard to their roles in ending slavery in their respective countries, with a special emphasis on the Tlingit leader Koh'klux and Alaska's first U.S. military commander, Jefferson C. Davis.
